Previously a principal engineer at Meta (~5 years) and author of "Programming TypeScript" (O’Reilly). Claude Code began as an internal Anthropic prototype and grew into one of the most influential developer tools of the AI era. In a widely reported July 2025 episode, Cherny and colleague Cat Wu briefly left for Cursor-maker Anysphere before returning to Anthropic about two weeks later.
