Don Harold Stassen “Harry” Jayawardena (1942–2025). Began as a tea trader; headed the State Trading Corporation’s tea department in the 1970s; founded Stassen Exports in 1977. Acquired a controlling interest in the Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka (DCSL) in 1992 — then the largest transaction on the Colombo Stock Exchange — and built a conglomerate (Melstacorp) spanning Aitken Spence, Lanka Milk Foods, plantations and bank stakes (HNB, DFCC). Executive chairman of SriLankan Airlines from 2008. Deshamanya (2005); Knight of the Order of Dannebrog (2010).
